My daughter, Brynn, was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes a week before her 7th birthday in Feb 2010.  In the weeks before she was very tired and not wanting to do much of anything.  Anytime her sister's wanted to go sledding, she wanted to stay inside and lay on the couch.  She was getting up 3-4 times a night to use the bathroom and then was very thirsty after that.  When I brought her to the doctor I thought that maybe it was a bladder infection or a flu bug.  She was admitted to the hospital with a blood sugar of over 500 and the doctors told me that I was lucky that I brought her in when I did. She was in the hospital for 3 days.  That was the hardest 3 days of my life, seeing her go through all of the blood tests and watching the nurse mess up her IV and blow out her vein.  By the third day Brynn was a pro at checking her blood sugar and doing her own insulin shots.  She came home and was even letting her sister's do them too!!
 
    I found out that Bret was going to be in Hayward, WI March 18, 2010 and was so excited.  My dad told me that he was going to get my girls, who are 11, 8 and 7 tickets to the show too.  I told myself that I was going to try my hardest to get to meet Bret and to introduce Brynn to someone who was diagnosed with diabetes at the same age as her.    I wanted her to see that just because someone has diabetes doesn't mean they have to stay in the house.  Well I debated all night at the concert about spending the money because of how expensive all the medication is and I decided to do it for Brynn.  We waited a little over an hour and a half and the girls were so tired.  We finally got to the line outside his bus and their eyes lit up and they couldn't believe that they were about to meet someone that I grew up listening to and loved!! All I really knew was that we were going to get a picture with him and an autograph and that would be something to remember.
 
     I was holding Brynn when we walked in front of Bret's bus and her eyes lit up and she was so nervous and so were the rest of us.  I thanked Bret for being such an inspiration to me and my daughter.  I told him that she was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes in Feb. He said hi to Brynn and asked her how old she was and if she did shots like he did.  I was so excited for Brynn to get this chance and she had a smile from ear to ear.  Without even knowing what was going to happen next, Bret called over to a lady, whose name is Janna Elais, and he looked at me and Brynn and told Janna to get my contact information because he wants to send Brynn to any diabetic camp that she wants.  I was like are you serious?  I started to cry and Brynn was crying and so were my other 2 and my sister.  Still holding Brynn and I gave Bret the biggest hug of my life and told him that I couldn't thank him enough.  I had no clue what to say.  I was not expecting anything other than to introduce Brynn to him and get a pic and an autograph as a memory. I was in such shock that we didn't even get an autograph but I told my girls that we got so much more and that this is way better.
 
     I cannot express to Bret how grateful I am for what he is doing for Brynn.  She went to school the next Monday and she was the talk of the school.  Thank you Bret from the bottom of my heart for showing Brynn that you can still do anything and everything and that having diabetes doesn't change what you can do or have.  You are a wonderful man with the biggest heart and gave someone that you didn't know an opportunity that she might not of had.  You have no idea what this means to me and especially Brynn!!!
